Sulphur Springs

By 1901 Dr. John Mills had built bath houses, a pool, a restaurant and a dock at Sulphur Springs, and a steamer ran up the river from downtown Tampa. In 1904 Josiah Richardson bought 100 acres and filed the Sulphur Springs addition to Tampa, and around 1927 the 225-foot Sulphur Springs water tower was built; it still stands as the neighborhood's landmark. Today historic and new homes line the Hillsborough River under grand oaks.
